NVCA is seeking a highly strategic and politically savvy Vice President/Senior Director, Government Affairs to lead the organization’s federal advocacy efforts on tax issues impacting venture capital, entrepreneurs, and innovation. Additional policy areas may be assigned spanning energy, immigration, tech, and other issues.
Position Overview
This role will serve as NVCA’s lead strategist and lobbyist on federal tax policy, engaging directly with Congress, the Administration, Treasury, coalition partners, and industry stakeholders. The ideal candidate combines deep technical understanding of tax policy with exceptional advocacy, relationship-building, and communications skills.
Core Responsibilities
- Leading NVCA’s advocacy strategy on federal tax policy and related economic issues.
- Building and maintaining strong bipartisan relationships across key congressional committees and with coalition partners and trade associations.
- Analyzing legislative and regulatory developments and briefing NVCA leadership and members on policy implications.
- Guiding membership committees such as Tax Advisory Committee and advising membership peer groups such as CFO Task Force.
- Drafting comment letters, policy memos, talking points, testimony, advocacy materials, and member communications.
- Representing NVCA in meetings, conferences, media engagements, and coalition activities.
- Partnering closely with NVCA leadership, communications, and membership teams to drive integrated advocacy campaigns.
- Supporting broader government affairs and policy priorities across the innovation economy which may include energy, immigration, tech, and other issues.
Qualifications
- 5–15+ years of professional experience working on Capitol Hill, at Treasury, in lobbying, government affairs, tax policy, or related policy-focused roles.
- Deep expertise in federal tax policy and the legislative process.
- Strong existing relationships on Capitol Hill, particularly with tax-writing committees and key economic policymakers.
- Demonstrated success influencing legislation, regulations, or public policy outcomes.
- Excellent written, verbal, and strategic communication skills.
- Ability to translate complex tax concepts into clear and compelling policy positions.
- Collaborative leadership style with strong stakeholder management abilities.
- Experience in a trade association, lobbying firm, congressional office, law firm, or financial services organization preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $160,000 – $240,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications

Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Masters, especially Taxation, MBA, MPP, or JD preferred.
