Caroline Schellhas Vice President of Government Affairs

Caroline Schellhas served as Senior Director, Government Affairs of Tax for Pfizer, Inc. located in Washington, D.C. In this role, Caroline handled domestic and international tax issues working with the Global Tax Department, Federal and State Government Relations teams and others in the Corporate Affairs function. Caroline was responsible for monitoring and managing tax issues of key importance to the company considered by Congress and the Administration and worked extensively on The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 (TCJA).  During her tenure at Pfizer, she chaired the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Tax Committee and co-chaired the Finance and Tax Committee for the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO).  In these leadership roles she worked with a multitude of other companies to ensure that U.S. tax policy fosters competition and protects innovation. 

Prior to joining Pfizer in 2011, Caroline worked for Johnson & Johnson (J&J) as Director of Federal Affairs in the Government Affairs and Policy Department where she handled issues related to corporate taxation, both international and domestic, corporate governance and benefits. She started her career at J&J focusing on legislative issues related to federal government health care programs.

Before moving to the private sector, Caroline spent over seven years working for a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Specifically, she served as Legislative Director for U.S. Congressman Kenny Hulshof who served on both the House Ways and Means Committee and the Budget Committee. Caroline also worked for Ways and Means as a Press Assistant in her first position in Washington, D.C.

Caroline received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Florida State University, was a staff writer for two local newspapers and attended graduate courses in Communications. Caroline received her Master of Science in Taxation (MST) from The American University’s Kogod School of Business.
