Morgenthaler Rooted in DNA of NVCA as Early Founder and Past Chair of Organization
WASHINGTON, DC – The National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) today issued the following statement after the passing of venture capital icon David Morgenthaler, Founder of Morgenthaler Ventures and past Chair of the NVCA Board of Directors.
“To say that David Morgenthaler was a pioneer would be an incredible understatement. David was much more than a pioneer, he was an icon of venture capital, titan of the entrepreneurial ecosystem and champion of innovation,” said Bobby Franklin, President and CEO of NVCA. “Not only did he found one of the earliest venture capital firms but he paved the way for future generations through his efforts to form NVCA in the 1970’s and then use the organization as a force for good to advance a public policy agenda that gave rise to the modern day venture capital industry.”
“The opportunity to meet and work with David has been one of the highlights of my tenure at NVCA over the last three years. He was my direct connection to the founding of NVCA and I benefited greatly by learning from him about the early days of an organization I now lead in its fifth decade,” added Franklin. “Through his role in helping to found and then lead NVCA in its infancy, David is rooted in the DNA of the organization and his personal story will always be intertwined with the story of NVCA. David Morgenthaler will be greatly missed by me and the many others from the venture community, but we will endeavor to continually build on the great foundation he cemented for NVCA in the 1970’s. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and longtime colleagues.”
