WASHINGTON, DC – The National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) announced today that Mike Maher, formerly CFO at U.S. Venture Partners (USVP), is the 2018 recipient of the NVCA Industry Impact Award. The Industry Impact Award is dedicated to recognizing CFO, operations, and compliance professionals at venture firms who have provided an exceptional public service to the VC industry through the dedication of their expertise, resources, and commitment to the NVCA CFO Task Force.

A long-time participant and leader of the NVCA CFO Task Force, Maher was honored for his work  to expand the CFO Task Force into the engaged, active entity it is today and for spearheading a number of policy efforts around VC accounting and auditing regulations. His efforts were crucial in the successful effort to exempt VC funds from consolidation rules (FN 46). Maher also played a critical role in NVCA’s defense against a number of challenging accounting proposals regarding consolidation and investment company accounting during the early 2000s.

“Mike is incredibly deserving of this award. As one of the key figures behind the modern version of the CFO Task Force, Mike has been instrumental in building out one of the most influential peer groups within NVCA,” said Bobby Franklin, President and CEO of NVCA. “In addition to his leadership of the CFO Task Force, Mike has been a major asset in NVCA’s policy efforts, including helping craft our positions on fair value measurement and disclosure. On behalf of the venture community, we thank Mike for his service and congratulate him on this tremendous honor.”

Maher received the award at the 2018 NVCA Strategic Operations and Policy Summit taking place in Washington, D.C. October 24-25, 2018. The Strategic Operations & Policy Summit is focused on the critical role CFOs and senior operations professionals play at VC firms. The summit comprises technical topics, leadership development, and industry-related policy content. NVCA provides up to 8 CPE credits for attending the entire program.
