WASHINGTON, DC – The National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) announced today that Barry Eggers, Founding Partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners, will serve as the 2020-2021 Chair of the NVCA Board of Directors. His appointment was made official at NVCA’s virtual June board meeting today.

“We are excited about Barry assuming the role as the new Chair of the NVCA Board of Directors,” said Bobby Franklin, President and CEO of NVCA. “Barry becomes Chair at a critical time for NVCA and our advocacy work. As the global COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn impact startups and venture investment, we are fighting for policies that support young companies during this turbulent time. The VC and startup industry are on the forefront of combating COVID-19, and the creation and growth of startups will be essential to rebuilding the economy across every region and in every diverse community of our country. As Chair, Barry will be a crucial leader for NVCA in advancing startup and VC policy during this unprecedented time, accelerating our efforts to expand opportunities for men and women of all backgrounds to thrive in the venture industry, and representing the interests of the entire entrepreneurial ecosystem.”

Eggers is preceded as Chair of the NVCA Board of Directors by Jan Garfinkle, Founder & Managing Partner at Arboretum Ventures.

“Jan has been a true champion for NVCA and our policy priorities for many years, educating and communicating to policy-makers about our industry and its role in advancing medical science and innovation, enhancing our connection with VCs in the middle of the country, and expanding our education initiatives, among many other efforts,” said Franklin. “I am grateful for all of Jan’s dedicated work on behalf of NVCA and the industry, which has helped position the organization and the entrepreneurial ecosystem for success in the years ahead.”
