Venture Forward is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, dedicated to building a stronger, more diverse, equitable, and inclusive future for the U.S. venture capital (VC) ecosystem. Venture Forward was launched in 2020 as a supporting organization to the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA).

Women, people of color, and other marginalized communities are underrepresented in the venture ecosystem. Our mission is to change that. We support emerging investors, and enable current investors to drive positive change, through our research, educational programs, and networking opportunities.

Venture Forward’s programsimpact, and community have grown tremendously since our launch, with 2,500+ people matriculating through our VC University certificate course, 200+ emerging managers who have participated in our Limited Partner (LP) Office Hours program, and more.

THE ROLE

To further scale our programs and impact, Venture Forward is seeking a Data Operations Manager (“Manager”) to join our team. The Manager will lead on efforts to:

  • Develop, manage, and maintain the organization’s database systems related to programs, donors, community engagement, and other operations
  • Review and enhance current data collection workflows
  • Migrate existing data into a centralized Salesforce.com database
  • Set up the structure and workflow for ongoing third-party data integration into Salesforce
  • Develop reporting methods to track KPIs
  • Expand the organization’s data collection, analysis, and reporting capabilities

This is a junior- to mid-level role, ideal for someone with several years of professional experience with (1) data operations or database management, and (2) at least some familiarity with the VC landscape.

The role is based in San Francisco, and the team currently works in the office Tuesdays through Thursdays.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Develop, manage, and maintain the organization’s database systems related to:

  • Program applications, participants, and alumni
  • Program volunteers and speakers
  • Post-program impact and outcomes
  • Current and prospective donors

Support the design and development of new data processes that best advance our mission and our operations.

Create custom objects, record types, fields, flows, and integrations in Salesforce.com

Migrate the organization’s current data (currently housed in multiple platforms) into a centralized Salesforce.com database.

Identify and implement integration processes for data collected from external forms into internal database.

Create reports and dashboards for the team to easily track, view, and report on various KPIs to better quantify the organization’s impact and reach.

Contribute to general operational and administrative needs (e.g., preparing written materials and presentations for board meetings, etc.).

Periodically travel to assist with/attend the organization’s events.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

3+ years of relevant experience, such as roles related to data management, data operations, data analysis, systems integrations, business process analysis, program management, and project management, etc. Familiarity with VC ecosystem and/or DEI concepts are a very strong plus.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with ability to tailor content (including data-driven content), for internal and external audiences.

Strong technical proficiency with relational databases, data analysis, and data management tools (e.g., Salesforce.com, Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets) and application/survey tools (e.g., Google Forms, Qualtrics, or similar).

Working knowledge of Slack, Zoom, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint (or similar tools).

Rigorous attention to detail, with strong data operations, organizational, and project management skills.

Intellectual curiosity and strong sense of project ownership with the ability to think proactively, take initiative, and see tasks through to completion with appropriate follow-up.
