WASHINGTON, DC – The National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) today announced it will have a full-time presence in San Francisco, CA beginning June 1, 2017 with the relocation of Maryam Haque, Vice President of Research, from Washington, DC.  With the relocation of Haque as a full-time staff member based out of San Francisco, her title will change to Vice President of Research and Strategic Engagement to reflect her new responsibilities for greater in-person engagement with NVCA members and other constituencies of the ecosystem, in addition to her research-focused responsibilities.

“While we are increasing our time focused on the development of local and regional ecosystems between the coasts, the San Francisco Bay Area continues to be the center of our industry and the primary location for a majority of our membership,” said Bobby Franklin, President and CEO of NVCA.  “Having a physical presence in the Bay area is critical to fostering deeper engagement with VCs and their portfolio companies and to ensuring NVCA is serving as the bridge between them and policymakers.  Now is the time to engage with NVCA and having Maryam on the ground full-time will be extremely important to aligning the interests of the ecosystem.”

Haque has been with NVCA as Vice President of Research since December 2015.  At NVCA, she provides strategic leadership related to venture capital research and data to support NVCA’s mission of advocating for policies that empower entrepreneurs and their investors, and serving as the definitive resource for venture capital data. She produces the annual NVCA Yearbook, creates data-driven content to quantify the size and impact of the venture industry, and frequently publishes insights on the NVCA blog. With her new role as Vice President of Research and Strategic Engagement, Haque will also provide strategic leadership as it relates to NVCA’s engagement with the venture ecosystem and long-term growth.

Prior to joining NVCA, Haque was the Senior Director of Research for EMPEA, the global industry association for private capital in emerging markets.  In this role, she oversaw and managed the organization’s full suite of research and data products and services, helping to elevate EMPEA’s visibility in the private capital industry both at home and abroad.  While at EMPEA, she founded the DC Women in Private Equity and Venture Capital Group, which serves as a professional networking group of 70+ women from the DC area that are active in the private equity and venture capital industries.

Prior to joining EMPEA, Haque spent more than five years in the Private Equity & Venture Capital division at Dow Jones & Company, first serving as a Research Assistant and then later promoted to Senior Research Analyst.  In these roles, she was involved in all aspects of the company’s collection, analysis and dissemination of data on global private equity and venture capital activity.  Haque graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Policy and Management.
