NVCA is open by invitation to all professional venture capital firms and corporate venture capital investors who are responsible for investing risk capital in developing companies or industries on a professional basis. Representation

NVCA is the leading public policy advocate for the venture capital industry. NVCA works with all branches of government, the media and organizations nationwide to foster a better understanding of how entrepreneurship and venture capital impacts the U.S. economy. In addition, NVCA provides many opportunities for venture capitalists and entrepreneurs to become active in the policy formation process. Professional Development

NVCA's professional development programs are designed to enhance knowledge and encourage the sharing of information on best practices, industry trends, research, and strategy. NVCA holds regular webcasts on topics important to the venture community as well as periodic in-person meetings. NVCA is a Microsoft BizSpark Partner

Through Microsoft’s BizSpark, members of the NVCA can now offer startups fast, easy access to current, full-featured Microsoft software development tools and server technologies, as well as production licenses at no cost. To be eligible for the Microsoft BizSpark Program, startups must be:

  • actively engaged in the development of a software-based product or service that is a core piece of their business model,
  • privately held,
  • in business less than three years, and
  • have less than USD $1M in revenue.

 

Enrollment in the program is free. Startups can keep all the dev and test software they have downloaded over the three years of the program. Microsoft will assess a USD$100 program offering fee at program exit. Members of the NVCA are pre-approved as a BizSpark Network Partner. But, firms must enroll to get started.

 

Venture Philanthropy

NVCA serves as a clearinghouse for information regarding venture philanthropy. Click here for listing of venture philanthropy organizations.

Fidelity Charitable Services® (FCS) encourages philanthropy through a Giving Account® with the Fidelity® Charitable Gift Fund, a donor-advised fund program.  In 2008, more than 240 NVCA members, with over $70M in assets, gave to nonprofits with a Giving Account.

FCS has extensive experience accepting and processing special asset contributions such as privately-held C- or S-Corp stock, real estate, carried interest, and limited partnership interests. We have many options to meet your giving needs including the Charitable Investment Advisor Program which offers you the ability to nominate an independent investment advisor to manage your Giving Account balance.

Through our partnership, NVCA members are eligible for an annual administration fee of 0.20%, reduced from 0.60%. NVCA has partnered with FCS since 2001. Venture Firm Administration

NVCA has formed a partnership with the Venture Capital/Private Equity Office Managers Association (VCOMA). VCOMA brings together office managers who support the private equity industry to share ideas, resources, and information. VCOMA members also receive discounts from many vendors that private equity firms purchase products and services from on a regular basis. Medical Industry Group

The NVCA Medical Industry Group addresses the unique needs of life science venture investors. Membership is automatic to all NVCA members who actively invest in the medical industry including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, biotechnology, and healthcare services. The NVCA Medical Industry Group facilitates working with policymakers, trade advocacy groups, portfolio companies and patient organizations to ensure that public policies are rational, efficient, well administered and result in high quality medical technology that is widely available to the U.S. public. The NVCA Corporate Venture Group (CVG) works to fulfill the information, education, and networking needs of corporate venture investors, enabling them to accelerate the progress of innovation and growth through successful strategic venturing. CFO Taskforce

The NVCA CFO Task Force is comprised of venture firm CFOs and plays a critical role of providing guidance and technical expertise on issues facing the venture industry. Strategic Communications Group

Legal Roundtable

The NVCA facilitates gatherings of general counsels and others who are responsible for the legal function within a venture firm in order to foster the sharing of best practices and to discuss the legal challenges associated with operating a venture firm. Cleantech Advisory Council

NVCA's Cleantech Council is a national working group that assists NVCA staff in identifying regulatory and legislative issues critical to the development and commercialization of new Cleantech technologies. The "Council" helps formulate NVCA's policy agenda in the Cleantech arena and is working to accelerate the growth of this emerging venture segment.
