NVCA Participates in 2014 Energy Datapalooza Event at White House
Last week, I attended the 2014 Energy Datapalooza event hosted at the White House, a gathering of innovators who are using the power of data to build the clean energy economy. Several venture-backed companies were part of the technology showcase and exhibited at the event, highlighting novel technologies aimed at energy efficiency, utility load management and a myriad of other challenges in the energy sector.
At the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA), we believe that the government can and should be a trusted partner in helping the private sector adopt innovative technologies that will help spur the growth of the next generation of energy companies.
Events like the Energy Datapalooza, showcasing successful venture-backed companies like OPower and Nest, can shine a light on the intersection of technology and energy that can improve millions of lives. Companies demonstrated how they are using energy data to help American homes and businesses to use less energy and cut down on their energy bills. Utilities talked about the emergence of the smart grid. Finally, a series of presentations showed how open data is helping America adopt clean energy technologies such as solar power and geothermal energy.
Energy Secretary Ernie Moniz, Dr. John Holdren, Director at the Office of Science and Technology Policy, Dan Tangherlini, Administrator at the General Services Administration, and John Podesta, Counselor to the President, all spoke.
